Games Announced at Sony PlayStation State of Play

On June 2, 2022, PlayStation held its latest State of Play broadcast, bringing game updates and new releases to its dedicated gaming audience. This 30-minute broadcast delved into the details of many new games, from an updated take on a classic fighter game to a long-awaited fantasy RPG. A Remake of a Classic Game: Resident Evil 4

The classic 2005 Resident Evil 4 will be redone with a reimagined storyline and upgraded graphics and controls. The new Resident Evil will be available on March 24, 2023, exclusively on PlayStation 5 and with content available for PlayStation VR2.

Content for PlayStation VR2

The PlayStation VR2 is still in development, but many games with content for the new system were announced in the latest PlayStation State of Play.

Resident Evil Village

The award-winning PS5 Resident Evil Village is getting even more immersive for the VR2 platform. Each VR controller will represent a hand in the world, so players can get up and close as they battle monsters. The creators haven’t announced the release date.

Walking Dead: Saints and Sinner – Ch. 2: Retribution

Coming in 2022, the second installation in the Walking Dead games brings a new story, new maps, new weapons, and more. This PlayStation game will come to the original PS VR and the developing PS VR2.

Horizon Call of the Mountain

This fully VR adventure allows gamers to explore new and vivid worlds. Gamers can climb mountains and fight machines up close thanks to the technology of PS VR2. This new installation of the Horizon series will be exclusively available on PS VR2.

No Man’s Sky

One of the biggest VR games will be coming to the PS VR2. No Man’s Sky offers gamers the chance to fly a ship through space and explore worlds in a realistic VR setting.

Game Updates

PlayStation also announced updates to some of their most popular games. Here are the two games that will be updated in 2022.

Horizon Call of the West

This PlayStation game has received a significant update that’s now available. The update includes New Game+, new visual fidelity, the ability to switch outfits and reset skills, the option to redistribute skill points, and an ultra-hard difficulty level. Players can also replay the game with endgame gear and collect new weapons and trophies.

Spider-Man Remastered

Two beloved Spider-Man games are coming to PC with derailed graphics and gameplay. Spider-Man Remastered will be available on PC on August 12, 2022, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is coming to PC in fall 2022.

New Games

In addition to reboots and updates, PlayStation has also announced several brand new games that are rich with action, worldbuilding, and stories. Here are the eight newly announced games.

Stray

In Stray, gamers play as a cat in a cyber city, interacting with the world and robots around it. Stray will be available on July 19, 2022, for the PS4 and PS5. In addition, PlayStation Plus Extra members and higher can download the game for free.

The Callisto Protocol

This sci-fi horror game is brought to life by the creator of “Dead Space.” Set on Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in 2320, gamers battle terrifying alien monsters in this terrifying action game. The Callisto Protocol will be available on December 2, 2022, for PS5 and PS4.

Rollerdrome

Rollerdrome is set in 2030 when a new sport has taken the world by storm. The sport includes roller skating and shooting enemies, trying to get to the championship. This game will release on August 16, 2022, for PS4 and PS5.

Eternights

This PlayStation game combines an action game with a dating simulation in a post-apocalyptic world. As a result, gamers can interact with five other characters. The dungeons have deadlines, so players have to balance saving the world and deepening their relationships. Eternights will be released in early 202 for PS4 and PS5.

Street Fighter 6

Enhanced visuals and graphics bring modern gaming to this classic fighter game. Street Fighter 6 has returning characters Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, and the new character Jaime. It will release in 2023 for PS4 and PS5.

Tunic

Play as a fox in this isometric action game and explore a world full of legends, monsters, puzzles, magic, and adventure. Tunic will be available on September 27, 2022, for PS4 and PS5.

Season: a Letter to the Future

This game takes place in a town where a season is an age, a period of history. However, the season is about to change. Protagonist Elle leaves the city, the first person to do so in a generation to explore the world and preserve it for the future. This game will be available in autumn 2022 for PS4 and PS5.

Final Fantasy XVI

The long-awaited next installation in the beloved Final Fantasy series will finally release in Summer 2023. Final Fantasy XVI has a classic Final Fantasy feel with engaging, story-driven gameplay, intense battles, and magic brought to life with excellent graphics.
