Verizon Versus Upsie Phone Insurance

As the largest wireless carrier in the US, Verizon has 119.9 million subscribers. Like other wireless carriers, Verizon also sells warranty protection when you purchase a new phone, tablet or smartwatch. However, their warranty plans are not the best plans available. In fact, they are far from it. We compared Verizon versus Upsie phone insurance to help you make the most informed warranty decision.

Who has the better smartphone extended warranty: Verizon or Upsie?

The Upsie smartphone warranty is better than the Verizon warranties due to price, service and transparency. Verizon Total Mobile Protection plans cost $15 or $12 per month depending on the tier of phone, or $360 or $288 for two years. You can file three claims in a 12 month period. Verizon Total Equipment coverage costs $11 per month, or $264 for two years, for most smartphones.
Compare that to Upsie smartphone warranty coverage. Upsie costs $9.99 per month. Upsie deductible prices are lower, too. When you have to make a claim, you can do so 24/7/365 with their claims center, and most smartphone repairs can be completed the same day.

Is a Verizon warranty plan worth it?

Phone warranties are always worth it because they protect you from paying hundreds of dollars in repair costs when your phone breaks. But not all warranty plans are created equally; some cost significantly more than others. It’s important to look at coverage, price and the claims process to determine if that particular plan is worth it for you.
So, long story short, we do not think that Verizon warranties are worth it. Their highest quality plan is $15 per month or $360 for two years. Say you have a Samsung Galaxy S10, which has a $199 deductible, and the LCD under the glass breaks. According to Rockit Repairs, it will cost $209.99 for a repair. That’s $349 less than two years of Verizon protection and one repair deductible. Compare that to Upsie: a Samsung Galaxy S10 insurance plan costs $115.99 for protection. The deductible is $0 for cracked screen repairs, $109 for other repairs, and $149 for replacements.

What does Verizon Total Mobile Protection cover?

Verizon insurance is run by Asurion, so they have similar coverage to AT&T and Sprint. Coverage includes protection from:
  • Loss and theft
  • Water damage
  • Cracked screens
  • Post-warranty defects

Is water and screen damage covered?

Both Upsie and Verizon cover spills, water submersion, drops and cracked screens.

Do Apple phones from Verizon come with AppleCare?

If you purchase an Apple phone from Verizon, you can purchase AppleCare. However, it does not come with AppleCare. Before purchasing AppleCare, we recommend looking at other options like Upsie iPhone warranties. Their plans cost less than some AppleCare plans and Upsie doesn't have an eligibility window. You can purchase an Upsie warranty for new, used, and old phones. If you want, you can even get your iPhone repaired at the Apple Genius Bar through Upsie.

How much does Verizon charge to replace a screen?

The Verizon Total Equipment Protection deductible for a screen replacement is $29 for select smartphones. It is also subject to parts and availability. Verizon deductibles for other damages vary from $99 to $249 depending on the tier of smartphone. If you already have insurance through Verizon, you can check your deductible amount on Asurion’s website.

What is the process to file an insurance claim with Verizon?

Verizon insurance claims are filed through the Asurion website. They will prompt you to enter your phone number, Verizon account pin number and enter additional claims information. An Asurion representative will contact you later.
