Upsie Warranties Versus AT&T Protect Advantage

AT&T has a mobile protection plan called Protect Advantage through Asurion. It is offered with the purchase of a smartphone and even with some tablets. Now, just because you have AT&T does not mean that you have to use their protection plan. Upsie is a terrific alternative that will save you time making a claim and money on the coverage. There are other advantages, as well; we compared Upsie warranties versus AT&T Protect Advantage so you can make an informed decision.

Does AT&T or Upsie have better phone insurance?

Upsie has better phone insurance for a number of reasons. The largest reason is price. AT&T offers its Protect Advantage plan through Asurion for $15 per month. Unfortunately, Asurion is well-known for offering expensive plans, and, because AT&T uses Asurion as its warranty vendor, customers should expect the same high prices.
The second reason Upsie has better phone insurance is plan transparency. AT&T does not tell you what your deductible will be upfront. Instead, they make you start a claim before you can even find out what you owe. After doing some digging, we found that there are six tiers of deductible prices based on the phone model. Here is the breakdown of prices as of 7/11/2022.

Tier AT&T Warranty (2-Years) AT&T Deductible AT&T Screen Repair Deductible Upsie Warranty (per month) Upsie Cracked Screen Repair Deductible Upsie Replacement Deductible
A (LG K40) $360 $25 N/A $9.99 $0 $149
B (iPhone 5) $360 $50 N/A $9.99 $0 $149
C (Galaxy Note5) $360 $125 $29 $9.99 $0 $149
D (Galaxy S9) $360 $200 $29 $9.99 $0 $149
E (iPhone 11 Pro) $360 $250 $29 $9.99 $0 $149
F (iPad Pro 1TB) $360 $299 $29 $127.99 $25 $25
It’s important to note that not all phones are eligible for AT&T's $29 screen repair. Here is a current list of included items pulled from their terms and conditions:
  • Apple iPhones: 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus Apple, X, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max

What does the AT&T Asurion insurance plan cover?

AT&T Mobile Protection has coverage similar to other warranty plans. The only thing that sets their coverage apart from Upsie is that they offer protection from loss and theft. Both AT&T and Upsie cover:
  • Screen repairs
  • Battery replacement
  • Liquid damage
Furthermore, AT&T through Asurion covers up to three claims in one 12-month period. With Upsie, you can make two claims every 12 months.

How much does a cracked screen repair cost?

Cracked phone screens, for eligible devices, have a lower deductible than other damages through AT&T. The cracked screen deductible is $29. However, don’t let the lower deductible fool you. If you purchase AT&T insurance for a Google Pixel 6 Pro (priced at $899) and make two cracked screen repairs in two years, the total cost is $418. Through Upsie, the total cost for protection and two claims is $239.76. That’s a savings of $180!

Is water damage covered?

Water and other accidental liquid damage is covered by both AT&T mobile protection and Upsie.

How do I file a claim on my smartphone with AT&T Asurion insurance?

Start a claim online by entering your phone number and filling out more information. Then the claim will be transferred to Asurion, who will take care of the remainder of the claim. If your claim is approved, repairs will use new or refurbished parts.

Does AT&T replace broken phones?

Yes, AT&T and Upsie will both replace broken phones if a repair is not possible.

What is the Upsie claims process like?

The Upsie claims process is very quick and stress-free. To begin, when you purchase the warranty, the process is extremely simple. Simply checkout with your plan! Then, when you need to make a claim, the Upsie representatives are ready to help. You don't even need to have the receipt for your phone. You’ll never have to search through old drawers or emails again!
When you log into your Upsie account, locate your plan and either fill out a form or call the 24/7/365 claims line. A real person will answer the phone and quickly and efficiently walk you through your claim. After they collect your deductible (if applicable), they will even schedule a repair appointment for you at one of their certified repair centers or at a repair shop of your choosing. If you have an iPhone, you can even request an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar. In most cases, Upsie can get your phone repaired the same day.

Switch to Upsie

If you’re interested in switching to Upsie from AT&T, make sure you are still eligible. To begin, you can cancel your AT&T plan at any time. Upsie sells warranties for old, new, and used phones regardless of when the phone was purchased. You can purchase Upsie’s phone insurance here.
